1st Birthday!

Hello again! Long time no see. What a roller coaster life has been recently. I apologise for the complete lack of blog posts. The past few months have been all over the place and I've not found time to do anything. I decided I wanted to get back into blogging as honestly, I'd missed it. Things had been getting very tough and the last thing I wanted to do was turn this blog into a mopey depressing place to be, so it was time for me to have a break.

But today I thought, Yes, it's time to sit back down on my computer and write. I knew it had been about a year since starting my blog so I thought it was a good time to start again. I had, however, no idea it was my blogs birthday today!! So today, this blog turns one!


Having this blog has been an amazing experience over the past year. It's a great place to express the interests I have without boring my friends and family too much in person! But most of all, the reason I love having this blog is because of you guys! I've loved getting to know you all, reading your blogs and comparing tips and stories. 

I am so sorry I disappeared out of the blue! My life has been some crazy roller coaster and it's been hard to keep up with where I am and how I'm feeling.

I'll do a quick round up of whats been happening in my life.

First of all, I have a new job! I am so much happier with where I am. Working in retail was driving me crazy and let's just say it didn't end well. I now am in a Monday to Friday job, I have my weekends back and I get to see my fiance!

Speaking of fiance... Nathan and I get married in three weeks. THREE WEEKS!! We cannot believe how quickly it has come around and I couldn't be any more excited!

I have lost over 2 stone in weight! Those of you who read my blog before might remember 'Shape Up Sunday', updating you with my weight and any new tips I have. I can't believe how much weight I've lost and it's been a life changing journey.

I have, unfortunately, been battling with my own personal issues the past few months. I've been suffering with a lot of panic attacks, anxiety attacks and depression. These things I have recently began to get help for and they're starting to become controlled. Not knowing where you stand with things is a scary place to be in, and I felt very lost. But with the help of all my friends and family, I'm on the path to recovery.


This blog has in the past been a big mash of lots of topics, including; beauty, baking, healthy living, fashion, lifestyle, music etc. But now I really want to try and focus on just a few topics. Beauty is something that I'm really interested in. I love reviewing products, comparing different brands and wearing different colours, so I think this blog is going to stick to a beauty/lifestyle theme. I find this easier to talk about and I enjoy them much more. So if you enjoy reading beauty/lifestyle, please follow this blog! I'd love to have you around!

I hope this post hasn't been too all over the place. I just wanted to explain a few things. I plan to start off with post a few times a week, so see you in a few days!

My Goals This Spring/Summer

I cannot explain how happy I am now it's getting warmer and the sun is coming out! This summer is a big one for my fiancée, Nathan, and I (any guesses what's happening?!), and now that it's April it just means we're another step closer to one of the biggest days of our lives.

Although this is going to be one of the happiest years of our lives, it does also mean it's going to be one of the most stressful and busiest. This, I know, I will struggle to handle, but with the help of Nathan and my family, I'm sure I'll be able to stay calm. To try and overcome this busy time, I thought I'd create a list of my goals this Spring/Summer to help towards this crazy period in our lives. Some being tasks I've been needing to do for a while, but some our just ways to relax myself (as I can be a very anxious person!).


1. Actually get fitter: I'm sure most of you know that I've been losing weight this past winter. I'm about 12lbs away from my target weight, but this, unfortunately, hasn't magically made me fitter - which I think I was truly hoping it would!

2. Reach my target weight: As well as getting fitter, I would love to reach my target weight this Spring too. Both Nathan and I are members of Slimming World, and we both aim to have reached, or be close to, our target weights by the end of Spring/start of Summer. Nathan's suit fitting is the middle of June, and my final dress fitting is the start of July, so in my head I still feel like we've got ages, but this will soon creep up on us!

3. Read more: I love to read, but I never give myself enough time to do so. Nathan is a big reader, so we're planning to get into a routine of before sleeping, to sit up in bed and read. Hopefully this will relax me more before sleeping, as recently I've had massive problems with trying to get to sleep.

4. Completely unpack: So we moved more than a month ago now, and we still haven't unpacked properly yet! More and more boxes just seem to appear so we're getting a bit bored of it all. I have this week off work so I plan to blitz through it.

5. Catch up with friends and family: This I don't feel like I do enough. I live too far away from everyone to be able to pop over for a catch up and a cup of tea, so I'd love to plan a few days out and have a good old catch up.

6. Get a new wardrobe of clothes: I've been living in black the past 5 months, but this is mainly due to no other clothes fitting me because of my change of weight. Money has been rather tight recently too hence why I've not bought more either. I need more bright colours in my life!

7. Continue my studies: I've actually planned the next 4 years of my life, and I've said this so many times, but I am now back into studying. I've enrolled onto two home A levels, and I'm sitting the exams in June 2016, to then plan to start a degree in the September after, this is as long as Nathan and I can afford me to do this. I'll write a post about these home studies and my plan soon.

8. Complete the last finishing touches for our wedding: Have I mentioned I'm getting married this year?! Everything seems to be going to plan, but now it's time for the last finishing touches, like the decorations, finalising the food etc. It's getting real now!

9. Enjoy the sunshine: Whilst 'trying' to attempt to complete all of the above, I've got to remember to enjoy the sun! I've always missed out on the sun as I'm usually working or in my little fort on the sofa. This year however I'm much more confident with my body so I want to go out and have fun in the sun!

Spring Fashion Wants



I am in desperate need of a new wardrobe, as all of my clothes are either too big, old or just plain 'Why Did I Buy You?!'. Now that we've finally hit Spring *Yay!* there are so many gorgeous clothes around up for grabs! I thought I would share with you my favourite finds so far, and then rack up the shopping trolley!

I love floral print! I've never had a dress these mix of colours either so I would love to have this dress.

I love this skirt so much! It looks so light and flowly - Is that even a word? I really like checks on clothing so this is something I can imagine I'd wear a lot.

Pastel colours. Gotta love them! They look so beautiful in spring. I love this jacket, especially the colour.

More pastel colours! It says blue, but I see mint green, which is one of my favourite colours. A MUST have!

This is a gorgeous colour, and this dress hangs beautifully on the model on their website, so lets hope I can pull it off!

I don't wear enough printed trousers/leggings and I thought these were gorgeous. They're actually joggers so it'll be interesting to see how well they fit.

B-e-a-utiful! This is my favourite out of the lot. It's lace, a high neck, and it has a bit of a sleeve. This is my perfect dress.

I love a good old printed statement top, and these colours are perfect for those bright sunny days!

And now time for a pair of sunglasses, because the suns officially coming out in the UK - it's a necessity! The cat eye look of these sunglasses look beautiful.

GUEST POST - Just Ems: Weight Loss Tips

Hi there!


I'm Emma from Just Ems, a weight loss blog that I started in November last year. I'm here to share some of my weight loss tips with you and hopefully motivate and inspire others to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Before I start to share my little pearls of wisdom that I have picked up over the years, here's a little about me and my journey so far:


I have been overweight almost my entire teenage and adult life and like many others have tried every diet going. Slimming World, Weight Watchers, Atkins, Slim Fast and VLCD (very low calorie diet in the form of 3 shakes a day). My weight has fluctuated up and down as I tried each diet and lost weight but gaining the weight back after I gave up each one. The only diet where I actually lost all the weight was the VLCD however, after getting close to goal, it prompted bouts of binging and purging in my eating habits and I gained all the weight back and more! 
In July 2014 I weighed in at 16 stone 2lbs (my highest weight ever!) and after seeing that 16 number on the scales, I knew I had to do something. I knew deep down that whichever way I chose to lose it, it had to be for life and the weight would have to stay off. I discovered Clean Eating and started my journey in October 2014. So far I've lost 3 stone and 5lbs / 21.3 kgs / 47lbs and I am halfway through my journey with another 2 stone and 11lbs / 17.6 kgs / 39lbs to go. My aim is to reach my goal weight of 10 stone / 81 kgs / 140lbs by July (my birthday) and losing around 2.5lbs a week, I should get there.


So I've compiled a list of weight loss tips that I do my best to adhere to whilst adopting a healthier lifestyle, I definitely feel that each of these tips have helped me to lose weight and have a healthier body on the inside and out! Of course, we're not perfect and there are days that we're unable to stay 100% healthy but if you try these tips as much as you can, you'll lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle for sure!


*Green Tea - there are many benefits to drinking green tea due to the antioxidants and nutrients it contains. It also boosts your metabolism which can aid to weightloss. Personally I find normal green tea too bitter and prefer the flavoured ones from Tetley. Twinings also good a good range of flavoured green teas and there is a seller on eBay who does an assortment of flavours so you don't have to buy all the boxes, click here to see the listing


*Drink at least 2 litres of water each day - I don't include any cups of green tea or coffee that I have in this amount, I only count the pure water that I drink. I am alittle strange in that I don't like the taste of tap water so I've bought a Bobble which has a built in filter so you can fill it up with tap water and filter out the nasties! I shop in Asda which sell them and you can get them online too. They may seem alittle pricey at £8 each for the bottle and filter but once you've bought the bottle, you only need to buy a replacement filter every 3 months, think of how much money you'll be saving on bottled water. I know that water can be boring so you can infuse your water with fruit if you like. I haven't reached that stage yet but maybe in the summer I'll try it with strawberries!

*Exercise 3 times a week - Exercise can really depend on many factors; how much weight you want to lose, how much you want to improve your fitness, how dedicated you are/can be to an exercise routine, what you enjoy, the list goes on. For a general tip, I would say to do something that you enjoy doing so that you'll look forward to doing it and you'll actually do it. There's no point in signing up at a gym if you can't stand going to the gym as after a few sessions, you may stop going and you'll have wasted your money on a membership that you can't cancel. If you enjoy cycling, invest in a bike. If you enjoy classes, sign up to some. If you enjoy running get the Couch25k app on your phone. The possibilities are endless with exercise. Do whatever is right for you and get new clothes to do it in, I love getting new gym clothes as it motivates me to go! Weird huh!

*Eat natural wholesome foods - I'm a strong believer in that Clean Eating is the way to go. Cut out as much processed foods that you can and eat food that is as natural as possible. As with exercise, food is another broad spectrum that can be taken in many ways. Find a food plan that works for you and your lifestyle. I know lots of people who have found success with Weight Watchers and Slimming World and its about finding the right plan to fit around you, your job, your family and your social life.

*Take measurements as well as scale readings - As you increase your exercise, you'll gain muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat but takes up less room in your body, so whilst the scales may show that you're not losing that much weight, you could be losing inches instead!

*Be as active as possible - take the stairs instead of the lift, park further away and walk where you can instead of taking the car. Every bit of exercise adds up to burning calories and boosting your metabolism

*Be mindful of what you're eating - are you eating that cupcake because everyone else in the office is eating one? Are you having a second helping of your dinner because it's there? Taking a couple of seconds to ask yourself 'do you really want it?' can make the difference of several hundred calories. Don't be afraid to say no to something and any leftovers can be chilled/frozen for another meal to have on another day. Your health is in your hands, no one is going to force feed you a cup cake!

*Be organised - One of my favourite quotes is 'Fail to prepare, prepare to fail' and it is something that in order to lose weight, I have to adhere to otherwise I can find myself in a situation where I'm starving and making the wrong choices because I'm hungry! Each week I make a meal plan where I work out what I'm having for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next 7 days. I write up a shopping list based on what I need and head to the supermarket. I then try and cook as many meals as I can in advance on a Sunday ready for the week so that I don't have to spend as much time cooking during the week. Of course, I appreciate not everyone can allocate this much time but if you can take some time to plan ahead and only purchase what you need you will save time and money and eat healthier.

*Most of all.. enjoy it! If you're doing something that you don't enjoy then it will be harder to stick to. Find an exercise plan that you enjoy doing and you'll want to do it 3 times a week. Find a food plan that you believe in and that fits in with your lifestyle. Discover recipes that you will want to eat and cook again and again and share with family and friends. I hate using the word 'diet' as to me it means a short term restrictive fad that people use to lose weight quickly, myself included! Eating clean for me is for the long haul and its not just about losing weight and looking good, its about the health benefits from eating natural foods and reducing my risk of diseases.

Home Sweet Home!

For those who follow me on twitter, you may have noticed a few moving home tweets! My fiancé and I have moved from a tiny flat into a nice little house and we couldn't be happier! We also have a little garden, actual stairs and, most importantly, better heating! I get very cold... It's the weirdest thing going from a small flat to now having to go up stairs to our bedroom though.


I guess this is sort of an update post really. We've just got our internet back, still sitting next to lots of boxes that need unpacking, but we'll do that another day. At the moment we're just trying to get settled and get used to driving a different way home! 

This post will be very short, as I'm quickly writing this before going to bed with a busy day ahead of me tomorrow in London (which is when this post will go live, thank god for scheduling posts!). However, I have one question for all of you who have recently moved, how long did it take for you to feel settled into your new home? As much as I am over the moon we now live in a house, I can't help but feel really unsettled and uneasy. I guess it's just because it's in a new location that I'm not used to, but I feel rather anxious, especially when in the house on my own. I'm sure this will die down soon, but I'm hoping some of you may have some tips on speeding up this process!

Until then, I guess I'll have to get used to it! I'm sure it won't take too long. Once we're all settled in, I'll show you all a few photos!

The 'Me-Time' Tag

I have seen this tag floating around on blogs for a while now, and I've been having a lot of 'me-time' myself recently so I thought it was only appropriate to do this tag myself! So sit back, relax and enjoy this tag!



1. What do you like to watch/read during 'me-time'?

I love having a good old catch up on blog posts and YouTube videos, but when I want some serious 'me-time' I usually go and grab Mama Mia on DVD. It's one of my favourite feel good movies. 

2. What do you wear during 'me-time'?

I wear my batman pyjamas bottoms and any over sized baggy t-shirt. It is never anything different.

3. What are your favourite 'me-time' beauty products?

Because my skin can be so sensitive with anything that goes on it, I have a very specific cleansing routine. So when it comes to face moisturisers and lotions, I usually avoid them. When I'm having 'me-time' I take off all make up, cleanse my face (I'll write a cleansing routine post soon), and snuggle into my bed.

4. Current favourite nail polish?

Maybelline Color Show in the shade Peach Smoothie. I'm getting ready for those spring pastel shades!



5. What do you eat or drink during 'me-time'?

Depending on how stocked up our kitchen cupboards are, I usually go for a banana milkshake and fruit. If I'm having an unhealthy day, which I promise isn't too often, I go for crisps and dip. I hope my slimming world consultant isn't reading this!!

6. Current favourite candle?

Such a difficult question!! Well honestly this very moment I am burning a candle that I made myself, and I am in love with the scent! If you don't know already, I am planning to start up my own candle making company, and this is one of the candles that I am nearly ready to sell. It's scent is called 'Banana Nut Bread', and it smells divine! I am planning to write a post soon about where I am with my candle company so watch this space!

7. Do you ever have outdoor 'me-time'?

At the moment no. First of all it's way too cold! But secondly, I don't actually have a garden at the moment either, but things might be changing soon.......

8. Would you ever go and watch a film alone?

Absolutely not. I'm one of those really awkward shy people who needs to have someone with them most of the time in social situations... 

9. Favourite shop online?

Umm.. Wow this is a toughy.. Recently I discovered Rose and Grey, and I am loving their home accessories section at the moment.

10. Anything to add? What else do you do during 'me-time'.

Maybe have a nap or two?

5 Minute Review Friday - The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye and Lip Make Up Remover


Welcome to another 5 minute review Friday post! This week I will be reviewing The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye and Lip Make Up Remover. I had been on the hunt for an eye make up remover for a while, so I thought I'd give this one a try. I've not actually heard anything about this product anywhere, however I'm not usually disappointed with any of The Body Shop products, so I thought I'd wing it and hope it's good! Plus, I love the packaging! To use this all you do is pop a little of the liquid onto a cotton pad, wipe it over your eyes and lips, then you're good to go!



So as you can see in the photo above and below, the liquid inside is actually separated, so it requires a lot of shaking to mix them together. I've been using this product for about 2 weeks now, and I'm about a third of the way down the bottle, so it's going a little bit quicker than I was hoping, so I might need to slow down a tad on how much I use. So let's get on with the pros and cons!



Pros

  • It's unscented (at least I can't smell anything!), which in an eye and lip product I am very happy with. I hate putting a product on my face that has a scent to it.
  • It leaves my eye lashes feeling and looking super clean, this might I add was pointed out by my fiancé! I didn't even realise my eye lashes weren't as clean as they could be before using this, so that was a nice added bonus!
  • It's doing wonders to the softness of my under eye area. It's not helping with any darkness (boohoo!), but they feel so clean and soft. I actually have this weird small skin tag thing under one eye, and that has seriously reduced in size since using this.
  • It does the job super quickly. Just wiping this over my eyes and lips a couple of times does the trick.
  • A little goes a long way! Don't drown the cotton pad like I've been doing!

Cons

  • Using a bit too much on your eyes can leave them feeling a bit tingly. After a little while this soon fades, but as long as you don't use too much this shouldn't happen.
  • After the first time using them on my lips, in the morning they felt very dry, so I recommend after using the product on your lips, to moisturise them afterwards to prevent this.
  • The only other con I can think of is I'm using it rather quickly! But knowing me like I mentioned above, I'm probably just using too much of the product.

Would I buy this product again?
Yes!

It has left my eyes in such great condition! They are so soft and smooth. I just need something to tackle the darkness then I'm happy! But that mission continues... With my lips, I am still very happy with it, I just need to make sure I moisturise them afterwards. I think I would still try others if another came along, but for now I'm very happy with this one.
